Peter Kostelov designs 'industrial' apartment in Moscow

Published: 12-Aug-2009

Russian architect Peter Kostelov has used industrial materials to redesign a one-bedroom apartment, into a multi-room studio in Moscow.

The 86 square meter studio apartment, practically a one bedroom apartment, was renovated to create a spacious living room, a bedroom, study room, library, two wardrobe rooms, a kitchen, a bathroom, and a lavatory and shower for guests. With the bedroom and kitchen becoming far smaller, and the living room bigger, the remaining space was refurbished to accommodate a wardrobe room, adjusting to a bedroom and many other places.

With the ceiling lowered to give space for an entrance to store household things, the open space with a column in the center was filled with a frame made of steel tubes. The frame has not been trimmed with any decorative materials, except of metal cover, which can be easily replaced by wood, stone, paper wall, or cart.
