New sustainable table lamp to be showcased at Nottingham Light Night
Published: 07-Feb-2013
The new sustainable table lamp, designed by the Nottingham Trent University graduate Janet Wootton, will be showcased at Nottingham Light Night, which will take place on 8 February 2013 in Nottingham Trent University.
The base of the table lamp is made from pieces of recycled wood from the historic Cutty Sark ship. The wood has been removed from the clipper ship during its restoration and is provided by former Nottingham Trent University lecturer Paul Briggs, a miniaturist and model builder.
Shaped like a ship, the lamp is made from copper, brass, wrought steel and the recycled wood. The design of the lamp is centred on a light box which is made from eco-friendly bio resin with a piece of black bamboo and jute suspended within it.
Linking history with sustainable materials, the new table lamp is a sustainable lighting piece, which will be on display at the university’s Newton building in Nottingham city centre.
The lamp has been built in collaboration with Alan Crisp, principal lecturer in Product Design at Nottingham Trent University.
Light Night is an evening event which brings together various forms of entertainment that are suitable for all age groups.
