Land Securities to refurbish Portland House, SW1 in Victoria
UK-based real estate investment trust Land Securities has submitted a new planning application to remodel and extensively refurbish Portland House, SW1 in Victoria.
The scheme has been designed by architect Sir David Chipperfield.
As part of refurbishment, the existing 101 metre office building will be converted into 206 residential apartments while also creating additional retail space at street level. In addition, a new canopy to Cardinal Place, SW1 and extensive landscaping are also planned.
The plans were submitted following public consultation, in which Land Securities met with a variety of community groups, local residents, councilors and businesses. This also included a public exhibition to which 2,000 residents were invited.
Portland House, SW1 forms part of the wider planned regeneration of Victoria, including other nearby properties Cardinal Place, SW1, Kings Gate (residential), SW1, The Zig Zag Building (offices), SW1, 62 Buckingham Gate, SW1, Wellington House, SW1, and Victoria Circle, SW1. Land Securities currently has a 2 million square feet development pipeline for Victoria and plans to invest £1.7 billion during the next decade to create new residential buildings, contemporary offices and retail spaces.
