Balfour Beatty breaks ground on 131 Ponce residential project in Georgia
Published: 15-Mar-2013
Balfour Beatty Construction has broken ground on a new $31.5 million luxury apartment project called 131 Ponce Midtown Apartments in Atlanta, Georgia, which is designed by Davis Architects.
The 131 Ponce Midtown Apartments is being developed at Atlanta’s Midtown city block, in close proximity to the historic Georgian Terrace Hotel and St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church. The project involves development of a four-storied, wood-frame building, which will offer a total of 280 studios or one bedroom apartments.
The apartments will be developed over two levels of concrete podium parking. The residential units will be a mix of studios and one-bedroom homes. The amenities for the residents will include three private, elevated courtyards connected by a series of stair towers and a roof-top swimming pool.
The project site once included the first office building designed by well-known, modernist architect, I.M. Pei, in 1949. The historical integrity of the area will be maintained by resurrecting a portion of the Pei building’s façade and incorporating it into the new development.
The design of the building will reflect resemblance to the original office building, which occupied the project site. The project broke ground on 8 March 2013 and is scheduled for completion in August 2014.
