AMOSDESIGN redesigns iconic Brno Lounge Chair
AMOSDESIGN has presented new armchairs named Brno Lounge Chair, originally designed by Vladimír Ambroz,at the 2012 Designblock in Prague.
AMOSDESIGN carried out the reconstruction of the interior of Villa Tugendhat and, also produced replicas of the metal furniture originally installed in this villa corresponding to pieces produced in 1930. Villa Tugendhat, which was designed by architect Mies van der Rohe, is one of the key buildings in the history of modern architecture and is listed as a UNESCO monument. One of the iconic pieces it contained was the Brno chair, designed just for this building.
Mies van der Rohe designed the Brno Lounge chair from a flexible tube. It featured parchment upholstery, a model constructed from a flat steel bar. The replicas for the reconstruction were also produced with the same design with few minor alterations to suit present tastes. The chair is now mainly used in offices, even though it was originally designed to serve as a model for use with a dining table and coffee table.
AMOSDESIGN supplemented the original model with a low light lounge chair which resembles the original design. The tubular material used is the same as the material used for the original chair, with few modifications in the shape and size. The upholstery of the seat and the backrest is made of quality leather manufactured by Spinneybeck with the chair claiming to provide much greater degree of sitting comfort than the original.
The Brno lounge chair is complemented by a small table constructed from a bent tube and a white Carrara marble slab. The whole design of the Brno lounge chair is maximally subtle and its style and size is in harmony with the original philosophy of furniture design in the Bauhaus spirit.
